"THE POWER OF DESIGN FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION"

"The power of design for social transformation" is a project based on the exploration and understanding of the community of Zimatlán de Álvarez, Oaxaca, to showcase it and promote growth opportunities for the integral development of the community.

As a main objective, this project focuses its efforts on the development and production of a series of pieces that strengthen the sense of participation and lead us to preserve the craft around wood and encourage future creators to continue with the tradition.

Each object to be developed during the program takes us back to our past and our life in Zimatlán de Álvarez; they are the interpretation of "what we find in its streets", "what has been transformed over time" and "what is still alive in our memory" - details of our current daily life.

Each workshop oversees a process focused on knowledge between the hand and the head: the hand that executes and the head that directs, without forgetting the soul as the essence.

These innate abilities to produce and transform the material are the result of the constant rhythm of work, but also of the ingenuity to solve problems. We see design as a tool for self-knowledge and exploration of our community and our environment, allowing us to connect the knowledge, such as that of our "Abuelito Doroteo", the only woodturner in the community, with others.
