SPECIAL COLLABORATIONS

CUNA DE PIEDRA

We collaborate with Vvorkroom and Cuna de Piedra in the design and production of a "grinder" for a very special set of chocolate. The "grinder": A kitchen utensil used in Mexico to beat chocolate since pre-Hispanic times, it reminded us of the traditional kitchens of our grandmothers where everything was cooked over fire with wood.

Inspired by the traditional forms of the "grinder" and without losing its functional sense, we created a contemporary reinterpretation, a sculptural piece that seeks to preserve tradition and connect with our roots.

The piece was worked on a wood lathe with the Mtro. Jesús, in the Sierra Norte Oaxaqueña, an area where mills are traditionally produced. We use “aile” wood (Alnus acuminata ssp. Glabrata), a wood that comes from sustainably certified forests.

For the finish we developed a paste based on cocoa butter and other oils, which when applied on burnt wood, highlights the range of gray and black tones; shades like ash and coal, like the colors on the ceilings of our grandmothers' kitchens. Today this piece is a symbol of our collaboration, and you can find more about this project in the following link.

CAFÉ CAFÉ

Café Café is a place in Oaxacan's downtown capital that promotes organically certified specialty coffee. On this occasion, we designed the first set of wooden tableware for foodservice, coffee, and other ornamental pieces for space. Our benchmark was simple and clean shapes, with final finishes in linseed and coconut oils, and using rigid woods such as mahogany and "huanacaxtle". This collaboration was very special because it was the owners of this beautiful place who gave us the opportunity to try our pieces and open the doors of their space to show the talent of our community.

RAMEN-YA BY KINTARO

We got to know the Kintaró restaurant thanks to our friends from "Casa Itaa". After a talk about the purpose of our organization, the idea was formed to develop some special pieces for the restaurant. This time we developed some pieces to rest the chopsticks - traditional utensils used to eat in the Far East. For the shape of these pieces, we take as a reference the circle and the cylinder, elements that are present between both cultures. All pieces were carefully turned from mahogany wood and finished with coconut oil. We also design and produce other parts, such as serving trays and salad plates.
